Rogers Communications has signed a deal to buy the remaining 25 per cent stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) it does not already own from Kilmer Sports Inc. for $4.35 billion, giving the telecom giant complete control of Canada's premier sports and entertainment organization.

MLSE owns the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto FC (MLS), and Toronto Argonauts (CFL). The transaction is subject to league approvals and Rogers expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Rogers first acquired a 37.5 per cent stake in MLSE in 2025 by purchasing Bell's holding, bringing its ownership to 75 per cent. This latest acquisition completes the consolidation. The company also owns the Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Centre, giving it near-total control over the city's major professional sports teams.

The only top-tier professional sports teams in Toronto that Rogers does not own are the PWHL's Toronto Sceptres (owned by the league) and the WNBA's new Toronto Tempo, owned by Larry Tanenbaum through Kilmer Sports Inc. Tanenbaum, who chaired MLSE's board for nearly 28 years, guided the organization through multiple championships including Toronto FC's 2017 MLS Cup title and the Raptors' historic 2019 NBA championship.

Rogers said the company intends to sell a minority stake in its consolidated sports, media and entertainment assets over the next year.
