Toronto Police Cruiser, Firetruck Involved in Scarborough Crashes
Two separate collisions involving emergency vehicles struck Scarborough on Tuesday, leaving officers and a civilian injured.
A Toronto Police Service cruiser and a Toronto Fire truck were involved in separate collisions in Scarborough on Tuesday, underscoring the risks faced by emergency responders on city streets.
The first incident occurred around 11:55 a.m. near Finch Avenue East and Midland Avenue. A two-vehicle crash resulted in the police cruiser striking a utility pole hard enough to topple it. Two officers were taken to hospital as a precaution, suffering minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, a male, was also hospitalized with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Hours later, a Toronto Fire truck was involved in a second collision elsewhere in Scarborough. Details on that incident remain limited, but both crashes have renewed focus on intersection safety and the hazards emergency personnel encounter while responding to calls.
Both incidents are still under investigation. The crashes highlight the unpredictable nature of emergency response work and the importance of driver awareness around city streets.
