Woman killed by truck in Cabbagetown collision
A pedestrian struck and killed Friday afternoon at Parliament and Gerrard, prompting major street closures and a traffic investigation.
A woman in her late 30s was struck and killed by a large truck Friday afternoon at the intersection of Parliament Street and Gerrard Street East in Cabbagetown, Toronto police said.
The collision happened around 12:20 p.m. The truck driver was traveling south when the impact occurred. Paramedics arrived to find the woman suffering severe trauma and attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Duty Inspector Jon Rose addressed reporters at the scene, describing it as "very sad and very traumatic for the community." The driver remained on scene. No charges have been announced at this stage; police's traffic services unit is continuing the investigation.
Gerrard Street is closed between Berkeley and Sumach streets, with a large police presence expected for several hours. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashboard or surveillance footage to contact them.
The incident marks another fatal collision in the city, underscoring ongoing safety concerns for pedestrians on Toronto streets.
