Four British Columbia hotels have earned places in Travel + Leisure's top 10 city hotels in Canada for 2026, with Victoria's Fairmont Empress claiming the top spot.

The Fairmont Empress, which also led the list in 2025, is renowned for its stunning architecture, distinguished history, and recent renovations. Located in Victoria's Inner Harbour, the hotel — nicknamed "Canada's Castle on the Coast" — has been an iconic landmark since 1908 and is famous for its traditional afternoon tea service.

Vancouver's Rosewood Hotel Georgia ranked second nationally, while the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa placed fifth. Also in Vancouver, the Fairmont Pacific Rim landed at number six.

The 2026 awards were based on over 661,000 votes cast by international travelers in conjunction with Travel + Leisure editorial expertise. According to the publication, the best city hotels in the country share one common trait: "Exceptional service that turns inquisitive travelers into return guests."

The EIU's analysis of the top-ranked cities noted that tried-and-true destinations reign supreme, each offering "phenomenal attractions, superlative hotels, and electric dining scenes." While some hotels boast rich backstory and entrancing interiors, others are brand new to the hospitality scene.
