Canadian fans traveling to Toronto and Vancouver for the World Cup will pay more per match than supporters of any other host nation—an average of $5,043 per Team Canada game, according to a new study.

The estimate includes tickets, travel, accommodation, food, and other expenses. Entry-level tickets average around $600, while hotels run about $646 per night. For fans attending all of Canada's games, the total bill could reach $20,172.

Canada ranks as the most expensive country to follow, ahead of Australia ($4,752), Egypt ($4,485), and Iraq ($4,442). U.S. fans face roughly 20 per cent less, at $4,067 per game. Mexico fans have it easiest at $1,859 per match.

Despite the eye-watering costs, some fans say it's worth it. Michael McClymont, a Toronto-area fan, expects to spend around $2,500 for Friday's opening match alone—covering tickets, transportation, food, and merchandise. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he said, acknowledging the high prices but reasoning that hosting Canada's World Cup debut on home soil justifies the expense.

The disparity reflects Canada's geography and accommodation scarcity. Host nations with more distributed stadiums or cheaper lodging see lower per-game costs. For Toronto and Vancouver fans, every World Cup match carries a premium simply for showing up.
