Montreal-based Marconi Technologies has become the first Canadian company to secure a contract under the SAFE agreement, the defence procurement framework Canada signed with the European Union.

Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled the news Monday at the G7 Leaders' Summit in Évian, France. The contract is worth more than $10 million and sees Marconi supply tactical radios made in Canada to Poland's military.

Marconi will partner with Polish company Enamor International. Deliveries are expected to begin this year and continue through 2030.

Canada formally joined SAFE in May, becoming the only non-European country to participate in the defence borrowing and procurement agreement. The program grants preferential access to defence contracts financed through low-interest loans and is part of a broader European initiative aimed at reducing military reliance on the United States.
