Saturday's cooled down—layer up and get out — Vancouver, June 6.

Good morning. Saturday's landed noticeably cooler than yesterday—we're sitting at 10°C, so grab a layer you can move around in. The sky's mostly cloudy but the UV's still at 5.0, so if you're out for any real stretch, a quick sunscreen pass is worth it. Light holds till 9:14 PM, which gives you over 16 hours of daylight to work with. That's a solid window for whatever you've got planned.

A few transit heads-ups before you head out. The west side elevator at Main Street-Science World SkyTrain is down for repairs starting at 6:20 AM, so give yourself extra time if that's your line. The bike parkade at the same station is also closed through June 12 for essential work. If you're heading through 29th Avenue Station, platform space is reduced for tile replacement—both sides are still accessible, but construction fencing means a slightly tighter squeeze. And if you're catching Edmonds, both elevators are still down for replacement; they should be back by early June, but allow yourself an extra 15 minutes for detours.

Worth knowing this week: there's a carpenter from Langford introducing kids to Sloyd—that's a traditional Scandinavian wood-carving craft—and it's becoming a real thing locally. On the bigger stage, Vancity's gearing up for a serious World Cup visitor surge later this summer. The city's been preparing infrastructure and capacity, and it's starting to show. Also, if you're heading up to the Sea-to-Sky corridor, mosquitoes in that region are carrying a virus worth being aware of—check in with public health if you're planning time up there.

Eat-wise, Shawarma Time is opening at Hamilton and West Georgia if you're craving that. Otherwise, the Sutton Place is marking 40 years with a chocolate brunch today, which sounds like the kind of Saturday move that suits this weather—something warm and indulgent. If you want the full roundup of what's worth eating right now, Golden Plates 2026 has dropped with Vancouver's best food and drink picks.

For tonight, there's live dance happening at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts—The Happening Dance Presents has shows at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM if you want an afternoon or evening move. If live music is more your speed, Archspire and Undeath are playing the Rickshaw at 6:00 PM, and Jessi Cruickshank's DJing a dance party at the Pearl at 7:00 PM. Take your pick.

It's a good Saturday to get out. Bundle up a bit, keep that extra time in your back pocket for transit, and enjoy the long daylight.
