Tuesday's low-key—catch the game, dodge the 128, gear up for the weekend
12°C and mostly clear. A few transit detours to know about. Nothing major happening tonight—ballpark or watch party, your call.
Morning. It's 12°C out there, mostly cloudy, and the UV's running high at 6.0, so if you're out long you'll actually need the sunscreen for once. Sun doesn't set until 9:16 tonight, so you've got plenty of daylight to work with.
Quick heads-up on transit: if you're taking the 128 between now and Wednesday, there's construction routing you through a detour—from 22nd Street Station you'll go 22 St, 7 Ave, 20 St, then 8 Ave back into the regular route. Same thing if you're heading into 22nd Street Station from the other direction. It runs through next Tuesday, so plan a few extra minutes. The 100 Marpole's also doing construction detours through today—they're running you via Trapp Rd and Willard instead of the straight Marine Dr shot, so if that's your line, give yourself a buffer. The 192 southbound stop at 192 St and 28 Ave has shifted south one block to 27 Ave through mid-month due to work too.
Few things worth knowing around town: the Latin American community's ramping up for the World Cup with deep roots running through the city, and there's a whole spectator route transforming False Creek's waterfront for it. Also worth a read—a watchdog's probing a Vancouver police shooting that happened in East Van, and there's been work happening to expand domestic violence resources as the tournament ramps up.
If you're thinking food, it's worth knowing that Afuri, the ramen landmark, has closed its Vancouver location. On the flip side, The Observatory just opened on top of Grouse for dinner at peak elevation if you're feeling fancy. The dive bars are still doing their thing with cheap drinks and character if that's more your speed, and plenty of restaurants around town are geared up for the World Cup crowds.
Tonight's not packed—your best bet is the Summer House Season 10 Reunion Watch Party Part 3 at Good Co. on Granville if that's your thing, or if you want to get out, the Canadians are playing the Everett AquaSox at Scotiabank Field at 7:05 PM. It's an indoor watch party or an evening at the ballpark kind of night. Could be worse.
Weekend's shaping up better—live music Friday, baseball and Broadway on Saturday, soccer and shows on Sunday. But for tonight, keep it simple.
Cheers.
