Mainly sunny Saturday — get outside while the light's long.
Decent weather, some transit hiccups, and live music all over town tonight.
Morning, it's a proper Saturday. Thirteen degrees, mainly sunny, and you've got nearly sixteen and a half hours of daylight — sunset's at 9:21 PM, so plan your evening accordingly. UV's sitting at 8, which is high, so if you're spending the day outside, sunscreen isn't optional. The kind of day that makes you want to ditch the couch.
Couple of transit things to know. There's ongoing construction closing the westbound stop at University and the 5100 block through to the 26th, so if that's your usual route, you're rerouting. Highway 99 southbound had a stalled vehicle at Lions Gate early this morning — check current conditions before you head that way, just in case. Nothing major, but worth a quick look.
Canada's men's soccer team made history with a 6-0 World Cup win, so if you're into the game, there's definitely fever in the air. If you're keen on live football today, there's International Football House matches at Good Co. on Granville starting at 10 AM — good spot to catch the energy.
Food-wise, Chupito's brought back that iconic yellow shipping container to Mount Pleasant if you're craving tacos and good vibes. If you're feeling something different, Pony Room in Chinatown is doing intimate queer dining — worth a look if you want somewhere with real character. Chinatown's had some good moves lately.
Tonight's got options. If you're into live music, MR Tout Le Monde's at Fortune Sound Club at 7, The Listros are at The American at 7:30, and Natalia Lafourcade's playing Chan Shun Concert Hall at 7:30 — that one's a rescheduled show from last September. Ahmed Saad's presenting The World Cup Run at Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 8 if you want to ride that soccer wave into the evening. There's also Lenny Pearce's Toddler Rave World Tour at Vogue Theatre at 1 PM if you've got little ones and want to get weird with it early.
With the weather holding, you could easily spend the morning and early afternoon outside — the seawall, a park, anywhere you've been meaning to check out. Then catch some live music tonight while it's still light until 9:21. It's the kind of day that makes Van feel right.
Cheers.
