Monday sun, transit hiccups, and World Cup watch parties tonight

Morning's looking solid: 15°C and sunny, which means you'll actually want that sunscreen today — we're at UV 7, so don't sleep on it. You've got over 16 hours of daylight, with sunset not until 9:22 PM, so there's real evening left in the day.

Commute heads-up: A couple of transit wrinkles to know about. The down escalator from platform level to the east side entrance at Joyce-Collingwood on the Expo Line is out, so if you're heading that way, plan an extra minute or know your stairs. More importantly, there are a handful of cancelled trips this morning — two Dunbar Loop buses leaving Burrard Station (7:48 AM and 9:14 AM) and two heading back from Dunbar Loop (7:10 AM and 8:29 AM) are down due to operational issues. Also watch for two 183 Coquitlam Central trips out of Moody Centre (7:17 AM and 8:42 AM) that won't run. Worth checking your app if you're on any of those routes.

On the local front: A climber needed rescue off Sky Pilot Mountain over the weekend — glad that one turned out okay. Also worth knowing that BC's forest subsidies might actually be speeding up logging instead of slowing it down, which is getting a closer look this week. And the Richmond Foundation just handed out $120K in scholarships, so if you know someone in that orbit, there's some good news landing.

Food-wise, there's been some turnover in the Van restaurant scene — a few spots have recently closed. On the flip side, Chupito's bringing back its iconic yellow shipping container to Mount Pleasant if you've been missing it. And if you're on the Drive, fair warning: a café there got ordered closed over sanitary violations, so steer clear until that's sorted.

Tonight's the move: There's a free World Cup watch party happening — Egypt vs. New Zealand — which is a solid Monday energy if you want to catch some football. Head to Good Co. on Granville at 10 AM if that's your thing (though that's morning-listed, so double-check the time). And if you're in the mood for live music after, Twofourseven FYP is at Fortune Sound Club at 10 PM. With this much daylight and warm sun, you could easily grab an evening walk on the seawall before either of those, or just sit outside with a drink and let the day wind down slow.

Cheers — have a solid Monday.
