Tuesday before the long weekend — World Cup tonight, Canada Day tomorrow.

Morning. It's 14°C and mostly cloudy out there — the UV's sitting at 7 (high), so if you're outside for any stretch today, sunscreen's worth the five seconds. You've got a full sixteen hours of daylight today, and sunset's not until 9:21 PM, so the evening's yours to do with.

If you're heading out on transit, heads up: the elevator at Expo Line's New Westminster Station (McNeely Street entrance to the King George/Production Way bound platform) is down for now. And if you catch the E 49 eastbound around Elliott Street, stop 52015 has temporarily moved 60 metres east — they've got construction running through next Monday, so plan accordingly.

There's some real stuff worth paying attention to this week. Five years after the heat dome that killed people here, advocates are pushing B.C. for reforms that should've happened already. Meanwhile, Surrey's getting its first student housing tower — opens soon with room for 810 students. And there was an incident at Kits Beach yesterday; a woman was attacked with wood and a man's been charged. Keep an eye out for each other.

If hunger hits at lunch or dinner, Eggslut's finally coming to Van — first location — and there's a new Chao Mami Express in Granville Station if you want something quick. L'Abattoir's been here sixteen years and they've just opened a fresh patio if you want to sit outside and celebrate that. Les Faux Bourgeois reopens July 8 under new ownership, so that's coming back.

Tonight's where it gets good. There's a free World Cup viewing party at The Pearl at 2:00 PM — yeah, that's this afternoon, not evening — and it's worth catching before the Round of 32 kicks off Wednesday night. If live music is more your speed, The Psycodelics are at Fox Cabaret, Redferrin's at Commodore, Daniela Andrade's at Hollywood Theatre, and 2charm's at Fortune Sound Club. All start at 7:00 PM, so you've got your pick depending on the vibe you're after.

With Canada Day tomorrow, you're sitting on a proper long weekend. World Cup matches, festival energy, shows all through Friday and beyond — get outside while it's light, catch something live tonight if the mood hits, and make the most of the extra daylight. The weather's cooperating.

Cheers, and see you around.
