Wednesday's mostly dry — grab the daylight while it's here

Morning. It's 15°C and mostly cloudy out there, which means no rain in the forecast but you'll want sunscreen if you're outside long — UV's sitting at 6.0, which is high. You've got a solid 16 hours of daylight, sunset at 9:18 PM, so there's plenty of time to move around town. If you're heading out for lunch or an afternoon walk, do it now; this is the dry window.

Few things to watch on the transit front. Down escalator's out at Scott Road Station on the Expo Line (west side, near the Compass vending machines), and the up escalator from 8th Street at New Westminster Station is also down. The good news is the escalator situation at Granville and Lougheed Town Centre both came back online, so your Millennium and Expo connections should be smoother there.

If you've caught wind of the $6.50 airport fee YVR's adding to some eastbound transit trips, that's live now — worth knowing if you're heading to the airport. Separate thing: there was a shooting early this morning at a Cloverdale residence, and police are investigating. Not something that'll affect your day directly, but it's out there.

Food-wise, Odd Burger's wrapping up at its only Van location on July 12 — contract dispute situation — so if you've got a last craving, hit it before then. On the brighter side, Emeri matcha cafe just opened in Mount Pleasant at the old Goldilocks spot, and Benne, a new dosa place, is landing in Kits this summer. Good stuff to look forward to.

Tonight's actually solid if you're after something to do. The Head and the Heart are at the Orpheum at 8 PM — their 15th Anniversary Tour — which'll be a warm, acoustic kind of evening. If you're more into heavier rock, JINJER's at the Commodore at 6 PM with the Duel North America 2026 tour. Or if you want to catch some baseball, the Canadians are home against the Everett AquaSox at Scotiabank Field, first pitch 7:05 PM. Come From Away's also running a matinee at 1 PM and an evening show at 7 PM if theatre's your thing.

Grab some daylight where you can. See you out there.
