Thursday's got clouds, watch parties, and late-night vibes

Morning's settled at 14°C under cloud cover, and the UV's sitting at 7 (high), so if you're heading outside at lunch, don't sleep on sunscreen even though it's overcast. You've got a solid 16 hours of daylight — sunset's not until 9:18 PM, so the evening's got room in it. Nothing wild weather-wise, but dress for mild.

If you're taking the SkyTrain today, flag this: the down escalator at Lafarge Lake-Douglas on the Millennium Line is out of service, and over at Lougheed Town Centre, you're looking at three escalator outages — the down from the Millennium platform to the east entrance, the up from the east side Compass level back to the platform, and the down at the overhead walkway from the Expo Line platforms. Nothing's shutting down the stations, but if you've got luggage or are timing a tight connection, plan an extra few minutes.

Worth knowing: the Drive's northern end just got three new social housing projects approved, which is real change for that stretch. Meantime, Mount Royal Bagel Factory — 27 years on the North Shore — is closing, so if that's a regular stop for you, now's the time to say goodbye. Downtown's also picking up a new spot called Cantina Social Club bringing seasonal Mexican cooking and natural wine, and if you're keen on dosa, Benne just opened in Kits this summer.

Tonight's got layers. There's a FIFA World Cup watch party at The Pearl at 1:00 PM if you want to catch the match over a beer, and after work the city lights up: Jurassic Park in Concert is happening at the Orpheum if you're into orchestral nostalgia, Come From Away's at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage if you want theatre, and Wakin Chau's bringing the pop vibes to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 8:00 PM. If you're more into nightlife, Canada's Drag Race ALL STARS premiere party kicks off at Celebrities at 6:00 PM.

It's the kind of Thursday where you could anchor your evening around any of those scenes — depends on the mood. Everything's indoors tonight, which works fine with the cloud cover. Sunset's late enough that if you're out before dark, you've got time.

Get sorted and enjoy the night.
