Tuesday's mostly clear—grab the UV while it lasts

Morning. It's 16°C and mostly cloudy out there, but that UV's running high at 8.0, so if you're spending time outside today don't sleep on sunscreen. We've got a solid 15 hours and 52 minutes of daylight—sunset's not till 9:14 PM, which gives you real evening to work with. No rain in the forecast, so plan outdoor plans without the usual Raincouver guilt.

Couple of SkyTrain escalator outages to clock: the up escalator at Brentwood Town Centre (Compass vending level to platform) is down, and over at Coquitlam Central the down escalator from platform to street is out. Metrotown's got both the west and east down escalators offline too—that's the McKay Ave and Telford Ave exits. Nothing that'll kill your commute, but if you're dragging luggage or a stroller, plan an extra minute or take the stairs. Longer-term heads-up: the Burrard Station elevator's staying closed till spring 2027 while they rebuild it, so rethink that stop if you usually rely on it.

On the local radar: the city's pushing back on the mental health bed conversation, with the mayor demanding involuntary beds stay in Van instead of shipping them to Surrey. There's also a coroner's inquest wrapping up on an Indigenous woman's death that the family wants reopened—worth following as that story moves. And if you work in restaurants, hotels, or construction, immigration cuts are quietly reshaping hiring and labour right now; worth paying attention to how that's hitting local businesses.

The restaurant world's got some buzz. Boomtown and Bruja have dropped a Tajin Lime Cerveza collab that's built for summer drinking, and Earnest Ice Cream's opening their fifth spot on Granville Island this fall—that's the one everyone's been asking for. If you're planning further ahead, Niwa's doing a family-style feast out at Hazelmere Farm on July 25, and September's bringing Michelin-starred dim sum chefs to Vancouver for the Chinese Restaurant Awards Gala.

Tonight, Come From Away is on at Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage at 7:00 PM if theatre's your thing—good weeknight option. Otherwise it's a light evening for events, so streaming or an early night reads fine too.

Cheers, and stay hydrated out there.
