Partly cloudy Thursday — transit hiccups, but the Grind's calling.

Morning. It's 15°C and partly cloudy out there, so you can dress normal and leave the rain jacket at home—though the UV's running high at 8.0, so sunscreen if you're going to be out long. We've got a solid 15 hours and 48 minutes of daylight today, sunset at 9:12 PM, which means if you're thinking drinks or dinner later, you've got time.

Quick heads-up on transit: Millennium Line Gilmore Station's got the up escalator out from the Compass level to the VCC-Clark platform, so if you're coming from that direction, know you'll be taking stairs. Over at Commercial-Broadway, the down escalator from the Expo Line platforms (3 & 4) to the Compass level is also down for now. Nothing that'll wreck your commute, just plan for a bit extra if stairs aren't your thing. Also, if you're catching the 153 from Braid or Coquitlam Central this morning, a few trips are cancelled due to operational issues—6:55 am and 8:11 am from Braid are off, and 6:15 am, 7:30 am and 8:46 am from Coquitlam Central. Check your app before you head out.

On the news front, a former Vancouver police officer convicted of killing two women has been granted day parole—that one's worth knowing about. Closer to home for some: Surrey's been crushing it on housing, hitting nearly 14,000 new units in two and a half years, well ahead of target. And if you've got kids, a Vancouver teen's been pushing the federal government to fund endometriosis education in schools—something that matters if you or anyone you know has dealt with that.

Lunch-wise, if you're thinking something new: Salt& just opened on Hamilton Street with that viral salt bread everyone's been talking about. For something a bit different, Mandhras Cafe brought South Indian coffee and dosa to West Broadway near City Hall Station, which is worth trying if you're down that way. If it's dinner you're planning, Fairmont's Notch8 has rolled out a new menu blending French classics with West Coast seafood, or Wild Blue's got an August long-table dinner pairing West Coast cuisine with some serious talent.

Tonight's got options if you're free. Star Wars—The Return of the Jedi in Concert is on at the Orpheum at 7:00 PM, Come From Away is at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage at 7:30 PM, and if you want laughs, Chris Estrada's at Rick Bronson's House of Comedy BC at the same time. There's also live music and a homecoming show at The Pearl at 8:00 PM. Pick your vibe—you've got light until late.

Have a good one out there.
