Monday's here — watch the road work, catch the light.
Partly cloudy and warm, but transit's rerouted. Grab coffee and plan your evening.
Good morning. It's 17 and partly cloudy out there, with UV at 8 — that's high, so sunscreen if you're outside for a stretch. You've got a full 15 hours and 39 minutes of daylight, sunset at 9:08 tonight, so there's time to move later if you need it.
Commute heads-up: West Coast Express Train 1 is running about 8 minutes late into Port Coquitlam this morning due to freight delays — nothing dramatic, but factor it in if you're catching that line. More importantly, if you're heading north on the 250 or 262, both routes are detoured until further notice, Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM. From Keith and Bay, they're routing you via Bay Street, the Highway 1 on-ramp, and Marine Drive. It's a bit of a shuffle, so leave a few minutes earlier if that's your usual. One more: the elevator at Canada Line's Marine Drive Station (the YVR-bound platform) is out of service, so if you're heading to the airport or coming from that direction, you'll be taking the stairs or escalator.
On the ground, a couple things worth knowing. The Tsleil-Waututh Nation just wrapped up a 500-metre shoreline restoration near Dollarton — a real win for the coast. And if you've been following the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 conversation, Surrey and White Rock's Board of Trade just backed the advancement. Neither is going to change your morning, but it's the kind of thing shaping what's happening around here.
Food-wise, Pho Net Viet is landing at Aberdeen Centre soon in Richmond as another spot closes. On the Drive, Pax Romana's shutting down its current outpost before relocating to a new Drive spot — so if you've been meaning to visit, know that move is in the works. Downtown, Unscripted Coffee just opened with a fun model: the community votes on the seasonal menu. And if you're into sushi, there's a new spot that moved into a former ramen restaurant. Stefan Hartmann's also bringing classical European cooking to Bacchus here in Van.
Tonight, you've got options. Hedwig and the Angry Inch is screening at The Rio Theatre at 7:30 — the John Cameron Mitchell film, if that's your speed. There's live music too: indie rock at the Commodore with Nation of Language, or if you want to dance it out later, Midnight Mondays at Fortune Sound Club hits at 10 PM. With the light lasting until after 9, a beach walk before any of that is also very doable.
Stay dry out there, and cheers for the start of the week.
