Heat Warning Wednesday: Stay Cool, Catch Some Shade
It's a scorcher today. Here's what you need to know before you head out.
Heat warning's in effect, so we're in for a real one today — 16°C on paper but feeling hotter when the sun's on you. UV's sitting at 9.0 (high), which means sunscreen isn't optional. You've got 15 hours and 35 minutes of daylight, with sunset at 9:06 PM, so the heat's going to hang around tonight. Keep hydrated, find shade when you can, and if you're planning to be outside during peak hours, pick a shaded spot or save it for later when things cool off.
If you're commuting, the Davie St bus stop at Burrard (Stop 50074 eastbound) is closed for construction until Friday, 9 AM to 3:30 PM daily — factor in a detour if that's your regular route. Over at Metrotown Station, both the up and down escalators from the McKay Ave entrance are out of service right now, so expect stairs if you're heading through that way. The good news is the Newton Exchange detour cleared this morning, so the 323's back to normal.
Worth keeping an eye on: B.C.'s wildfires have over 6,300 properties under evacuation orders or alerts, and there's been an arrest in North Vancouver at Westview Shopping Centre that's worth knowing about if you're in that neighbourhood. Nothing directly affecting the city core, but worth staying aware.
For dinner, you've got options. If you're after something to eat tonight, there's Chris Stapleton with The Teskey Brothers at Rogers Arena at 7:30 PM if live blues sounds like your heat-wave medicine. It's indoors, air-conditioned, and a proper way to spend the evening. If you want something gentler, Come From Away is running at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage at 7 PM — also inside, also a good move on a day like this.
If you're thinking about grabbing a park picnic before things peak, head out early — you'll want the shade and the breeze. Provence Marinaside's running an heirloom tomato festival menu this August if you're planning ahead, and there's a Hong Kong crime cinema-inspired pop-up called The Fishy Business opening in August worth watching for.
Keep yourself and anyone around you hydrated today. This heat's real. Stay cool out there.
