Sunny Friday kickoff—15 hours of daylight, live music tonight.

Good morning. It's a proper Friday—16 degrees, sunny, and we've got until 9:03 PM to make the most of it. That's fifteen and a half hours of daylight, which means if you're planning to be outside today, you're golden. Fair warning though: UV's sitting at 7, which is high, so slip on the sunscreen if you're spending the afternoon out. No rain in the forecast, so dress for the warmth and go from there.

Couple of transit things to know before you head out. The Expo Line's Main Street-Science World Station has the east side elevator down from 5:50 AM onwards, and the Canada Line's Templeton Station lost its northwest entrance elevator to the platform starting at 5:32 AM—so if you're catching either line early, know your workaround. Upper Lynn Valley's still detoured through to the 30th if you're heading that way—construction's got you rerouting via Arborlynn and E 20th instead of Mountain Highway.

On the wider radar: North Van just green-lit some big zoning changes that pull back basement exemptions in single-family neighbourhoods, and there was an arrest made in connection with that Maple Ridge shooting earlier in the week that hospitalized someone. Worth knowing if you're keeping up with what's moving in the region.

If you're thinking dinner, Provence Marinaside's running a heirloom tomato festival menu through August—solid option if you're after something seasonal and bright. And if you're looking ahead to fall eating, Jersey Mike's is landing in Kits this September, and there's a Hong Kong crime-cinema pop-up called The Fishy Business coming to Van in August that's worth marking down. Come winter, Como Ultramar's opening up with Northern Spain seafood if that's your lane.

Tonight's where the real energy is. Young the Giant's playing UBC's Doug Mitchell centre at 6:30 with Cold War Kids and KennyHoopla—if rock's your speed, that's the main draw. If you're leaning orchestral, the Vancouver Symphony's doing Disney's The Lion King Live in Concert at the Orpheum at 7. There's also hip-hop and pop options across the city if you're exploring, and LIVE ASF! is happening at Fortune Sound Club at 7 if you want to stay late. With the sun not dropping until after nine, you've got a real window to grab dinner outside and catch a show after.

Weekend's shaping up proper—Of Monsters and Men tomorrow, Alabama Shakes on Sunday, live music scattered across both days. Plan accordingly and enjoy the dry stretch while it lasts.

Cheers, and have a good one.
