Monday's here—commute shifts, music tonight, tennis all day

Morning's 16°C and mostly cloudy—bring a layer, but you won't need the rain jacket. UV's at 5, so sunscreen still matters if you're outside for a stretch. Sun doesn't drop until 9 PM, so you've got a long day to work with.

Couple of things to clock on the commute: if you're catching the 23 along English Bay, that route's getting rerouted starting Thursday—it'll swing through Abbott, Pender, and Cambie before jumping back to regular service. The N9 NightBus has been detoured since last week via W 8 Ave and Cambie, so if you're heading home late, expect it's not taking the usual Broadway path. And if you're heading out to Surrey, the 503 from Bridgeport Station shifted its Fraser Hwy stop to the east side of 188 St as of a couple weeks back.

On the harder stuff: Michael Coyle, a longtime Coquitlam Search and Rescue volunteer, was found dead on a Squamish trail—a real loss for the community out there. And if you've got family in West Van, there's been another scuba diving death off Whytecliff Park this year, so that's worth being aware of.

If you're thinking lunch or dinner, there's some solid new things worth trying. Kozak just opened on the North Shore with handmade pierogies and shashlyk if you're craving Ukrainian comfort food. Fanny Bay Oyster Bar's got weekend brunch back on with smoked oyster quiche and their Lavender Shaft cocktail, if you're keen. And if you want something more elevated, Parker Rooftop's running a summer menu that mixes Japanese technique with local stuff—the cocktails are worth the trip too.

Tonights got three good options depending on your mood. Steve Earle & The Dukes are at Casino Vancouver at 7:30 if you want country storytelling that actually lands. Kim Gordon's at the Hollywood Theatre at 8 if you're more into experimental stuff. Or catch Florry & Friendship at The Fox Cabaret if you want indie rock energy. Pick your vibe and get there before sunset—plenty of light to spare.

If you're not doing music, the VanOpen tennis is running all day at Hollyburn Country Club if you want a weekday pass.

Cheers—get out there and make it count.
