Tuesday's steady — commute watch, new spots to eat, theatre tonight

Morning. It's a mild Tuesday, 16°C with cloud cover and that UV sitting at 5 — enough to catch you if you're outside most of the day, so don't sleep on sunscreen. You've got almost 15 and a half hours of daylight, and sunset's at 8:58 PM, so the evening's long if you want to use it.

Couple of transit things before you move: the eastbound stop at Davie and Richards is shut down through Sunday Aug 2 for construction — if that's your usual corner, you'll want to route around it. Also, if you're heading to New Westminster Station on the Expo Line early, the elevator from the McNeely Street entrance to the westbound platform is down starting at 5:30 AM. Worth knowing if you need it. Nothing else major today, but Friday the 210 and 209 are getting detoured up in Upper Lynn Valley — if that's your territory, keep an eye on the alerts.

On the local side, there's some interesting stuff moving. West Van's library just opened an exhibition on LGBT+ workplace discrimination if that's something you want to check out. Over in White Rock, the Snowbirds aerial show on Aug. 12 might be one of the last runs with those iconic Tutor Jets — heritage moment if you're into that. And if you haven't heard, Surrey's bringing back Ugly Potato Day at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds on Aug. 8 with 20,000-plus people expected. Very on-brand.

Food-wise, you've got some real moves happening. JJ Bean just opened a new spot on Fir and Broadway if you're in the market for your usual. More exciting: Maria Celeste is opening on Fraser Street with Portugal's casual tascas tradition — that's proper comfort food, tasty and unpretentious. And there's a new Ukrainian spot, Kozak, on the North Shore with handmade pierogies and shashlyk if you're feeling that direction.

Tonight's got theatre if you want it. Clue — A New Comedy is running at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 7:30 PM, and there's Willow Avalon over at the Hollywood Theatre at 7:00 PM. If you're into baseball, the Canadians are home at Scotiabank Field at 7:05 PM against Spokane. It's that kind of Tuesday — plenty of options, nothing pressing.

Have a solid day out there.
