Thursday's clear, warm, and the Canadians are calling tonight

Morning's looking solid—14°C, partly cloudy, and you've got a solid 15 hours of daylight to work with. UV's running high at 7, so if you're heading outside for lunch or planning anything midday, sunscreen's worth the two seconds. Sun doesn't drop until 8:55 tonight, so you've got real evening left after work.

If you're catching the Expo Line this morning, heads up: a few escalators are down around town. The one from platform to the bus loop at Lougheed Town Centre is out of service, and there are a couple offline at Commercial-Broadway and Metrotown stations too—both up and down. Nothing that'll wreck your commute, but worth knowing if you're hauling luggage or a stroller.

On the local radar: Alexandra Lodge, that 150-year-old Fraser Canyon roadhouse, is getting hammered by wildfire right now. Worth paying attention to. Council also just signed off on a 25-storey student housing tower for the Goh Ballet on Main Street, and separately approved a 22-storey hotel replacing rental units in Mount Pleasant—both big changes coming to the neighbourhood. WestJet's also cutting five routes out of Vancouver this winter, so if you've got travel plans, might be worth checking sooner rather than later.

For eating, there's some real noise happening. Youssef Jbari—guy trained in Japanese precision and brings Moroccan warmth to the table—is doing seafood at the Fairmont Pacific Rim's RawBar now. If you want something more casual, Richmond native Nicole Gomes just opened Lucky Lily Asian Brasserie at the airport, which means decent food on either side of security. Starbucks is running a nostalgic orange-cream drink lineup for the summer too, if that's your thing. And Duffin's Donuts made it onto Roots' new Pit Stops Summer collection T-shirts—solid flex for a local spot.

Tonight's your pick. The Vancouver Canadians are home at Scotiabank Field against the Spokane Indians at 7:05 PM if baseball's calling. Theatre folks have Clue—A New Comedy running at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 7:30 PM. Or if you want to move, Underscores is playing at Celebrities Nightclub at 7 PM. All solid Thursday-night options with real daylight left to get out the door.

See you out there.
