Saturday's your day—soccer, live music, and one last theatre show

Morning's soft and damp—bring layers if you're heading out. Fifteen degrees means a light jacket, and that UV's low enough you don't need to think about it, but the rain's real. Expect it on and off all day. If you've got evening plans, you've got over 15 hours of daylight to work with, so don't rush the day.

Few transit things to know: the 100 Marpole's running a detour through W 71 Ave and Hudson Street until Friday, so if you're heading toward Granville and W 71, give yourself an extra few minutes. The 49 East's got a temporary stop shift too—westbound at Elliott Street has moved west to Clarendon until Friday. Nothing major, but worth knowing if you're a regular on those routes.

Some harder local news this week: a house fire in Mission early this morning left one person dead and another hospitalized. North Vancouver's Park and Tilford Medical Clinic, which has been open for 35 years, is closing for good. On a lighter note—there's real good news too. A class-action settlement worth $30 million was just approved for people abused at Vancouver Catholic schools, and Little Mountain in Riley Park just opened 48 new affordable housing units with childcare attached. That's the kind of thing that matters.

If you're thinking about eating out today, Main Street's got some heat. Johnny Spero, a D.C. chef, is doing a one-night collaboration at Burdock & Co—worth checking if you're into it. Down at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, there's a new Japanese-focused chef at RawBar, and if you're heading to the airport, Nicole Gomes (a Richmond-born Top Chef winner) just opened Lucky Lily Asian Brasserie there. Nothing fancy required—Duffin's Donuts is also having a moment, collabing with Roots on summer gear, if you want to keep it simple.

For tonight: the Whitecaps are home at BC Place at 4:30 against Los Angeles. Good afternoon game if you want to get out before the light goes. If live music is more your speed, Ani DiFranco's at the Commodore at 7:00 with Valerie June, or there's Tommy Newport doing his Face to Face Tour at the Fox Cabaret at 7:30. If you want theatre, Clue is running at the Queen Elizabeth—matinee at 2:00 if you're free this afternoon, or evening show at 7:30.

It's a long weekend coming up, so Saturday's a good day to pick your vibe and get sorted. Whatever you choose, the rain won't ruin it.
