Long weekend kicks off—live music, theatre, and sun while it lasts

Fourteen degrees, partly cloudy, and you've got fifteen hours of daylight to work with—sunset's at 8:51 PM, so there's time to move around outside. UV's at 5, which means you'll want sunscreen if you're spending the afternoon out. Perfect long-weekend setup.

If you're heading downtown on the 5, 6 Downtown, or 6 Davie today, give yourself extra time before 5:30 PM. There's a special event running detours on all three routes—the 5 and 6 Downtown are rerouting through Denman, W Georgia, W Pender, and Burrard, while the 6 Davie's taking Robson, Hamilton, and Pender to get around. Once 5:30 hits, everything's back to normal. WestJet flight attendants are also on strike as the union and airline haven't reached a deal, so if you've got travel plans, check your booking before you head to the airport.

Worth knowing: Port Moody police are looking for witnesses and dash cam footage from a shooting that left a man in hospital. Delta's detected forever chemicals in groundwater—two wells are offline while they work out a protection plan. And we felt a 5.5-magnitude earthquake off the west coast of the island yesterday; second moderate one in a week, so that's on people's radar.

Food-wise, if you're thinking lunch or dinner, there's real stuff happening. Johnny Spero, a chef from D.C., is doing a one-night collab at Burdock & Co on Main Street. Youssef Jbari's brought Japanese precision and Moroccan warmth to RawBar at the Fairmont Pacific Rim. And if you're heading to the airport, Nicole Gomes—Top Chef winner, Richmond-born—just opened Lucky Lily Asian Brasserie there. Plus there's free Prinkle Fried Chicken happening at E 1st and Kaslo if you want to just grab something quick.

The Bandits are playing Winnipeg Sea Bears at Langley Events Centre at 12:30 PM if you want to catch some ball. For tonight, live music's firing all over—Ms. Nina at Village Studios at 5, Six Feet Under and Kataklysm at Rickshaw Theatre (19+) at 6. Clue's running at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 7:30 PM if theatre's your thing, and there's comedy happening too. With the weather holding and the long weekend stretching out, there's real room to play today.

Have a good one.
