Sunny Thursday before the smoke rolls in

Morning. It's 15°C and mainly sunny out there, which feels like a gift right now. Sunset's not till 8:45 tonight, so you've got a solid 14-plus hours of daylight. The UV's running high at 7.0, so if you're heading outside for lunch or catching an afternoon at a beach, sunscreen matters. The real heads-up though: there's an air quality warning in effect. If you're sensitive to smoke or have respiratory stuff going on, today's the last comfortable day before things get worse, so plan outdoor stuff accordingly.

On the transit side, a couple of bus detours to clock if you're heading to those neighbourhoods. The 100 heading to Marpole is rerouting through Hudson Street till Friday due to construction—regular route to Granville and W 71st, then back online. The 3 Waterfront and 3 Main-Marine have weekend detours coming Saturday if you're heading that way for whatever's on.

Wildfire season is shifting fast. BC's burning tactics are changing as drought makes old burn scars less reliable for fire breaks, and an out-of-control blaze is spreading near Port Moody and Belcarra as crews work around the clock. Worth watching if you're in those zones or heading that direction.

Food-wise, Hen just softly opened on West Broadway this week—they're doing Thai chicken rice, which is solid comfort eating. If you're thinking bigger, Sula's running a $48 seven-course tasting menu that takes you across India's regional cuisines. And if you want to stretch summer eating through August, there's a solid guide to white wines worth sipping on right now.

This evening's got live music if you're up for it. Liam St. John's at Fox Cabaret at 7:00, and Avalon Emerson's spinning at Fortune Sound Club the same time. Both indoor venues, so the air quality won't wreck your night out. Pick your vibe and head early if the smoke does roll in faster than expected.

Cheers. Get outside while the sun's good.
