Friday's got heat and noise — pick your vibe

Sixteen degrees and partly cloudy this morning, which sounds fine until you clock the air quality alert. It's a high UV day too (7.0), so if you're thinking of a beach walk or the seawall later, sunscreen is non-negotiable—and maybe check the AQHI before you head out. Sun's not down until 8:43 tonight, so you've got almost 15 hours of daylight to work with. Just keep the air in mind if you're sensitive.

Getting around: If you're heading to Surrey, the 326 is on detour through 7 PM today due to construction—they're routing you via 156 Street and Fraser Highway instead of the usual run. The 501 out to Langley has two separate detours running because of motor vehicle accidents, so give yourself extra time if that's your route. On the SkyTrain side, the down escalator at Joyce-Collingwood on the Expo Line is out until 3 PM today for maintenance—no drama, just the stairs.

The Richmond Night Market is closing its doors after 26 years, and there's been some debate about what the city should do next. Elsewhere, West Van council just voted on the province's housing density bylaw, and it wasn't an easy call. Worth paying attention to if you're watching the region's housing conversation.

For dinner, there's real energy in the food scene right now. Hen just soft-opened on West Broadway—it's a Thai chicken rice specialist, so if you're craving something clean and flavourful, that's worth trying. If you're in the mood for something fancier, Sula's running a seven-course tasting menu across India's regional cuisines for $48. Downtown, Cantina Social Club has landed at Pinche Taco Shop, bringing Mexico City nightlife energy to the core. And if you're still thinking about summer wine, there's a solid guide to 10 white wines that'll stretch the season through August.

Tonight's yours if you've got the energy. The Whitecaps are home at BC Place at 7:30 PM for a Leagues Cup match against FC Juarez—solid Friday night option if you want to get out. On the live music side, you've got Chiodos with 156/Silence at the Commodore Ballroom at 7, or Porcelain with Cherry Pick and Tall Mary at The Pearl, also at 7. ISOxo's doing a Hardcore Diva night at PNE Forum at 6:30 if you want to dance late.

Weekend's shaping up nicely—indie rock tonight, soccer tomorrow, and the city's buzzing. Sorted?
