Sunny Tuesday with transit hiccups and fresh eats around town
Expo Line's got delays this morning, but the weather's on your side—and there's good food to look forward to.
Morning. It's 13°C and mainly sunny out there, which means leave the rain jacket at home and grab shades instead. UV's running high at 7, so if you're outside for lunch or the commute, you'll want sunscreen. You've got 14 and a half hours of daylight to work with, sunset landing at 8:36 PM—plenty of time to do something after work if you feel like it.
Transit's got one wrinkle this morning: the Expo Line is dealing with a stalled train and running delays, so if that's your usual line, plan for extra time or consider hopping on the Millennium or Canada Line instead. Both are running normal service. Out in the suburbs, the 152 Street work wrapped up early, so the 531, 375, and 362 are all back to their regular routes. There's some roadside brushing happening today with the right lane blocked and shoulder closed—watch for traffic control, but it should be localized.
On the bigger picture: the province logged critical spotted owl habitat despite recovery plans in the works, and word came down that 334,600 acres are headed to First Nations land transfers. If you're into the backcountry, remember B.C.'s banned recreational off-road vehicles in fire centres through October. And if you were planning a trip to Richmond Night Market, heads up—it's closing after 26 years, though the city's mayoral candidates are split on whether it should be saved.
For eating, there's some solid new options landing. Hen just softly opened on West Broadway with Thai chicken rice as their thing—worth a try if that's calling you. Over in West Van, the historic Navvy Jack House reopened as Navvy House restaurant on the waterfront, and up on the North Shore, the oldest standing house just got new life as a waterfront spot too. If you want to dial it in, Sula's running a seven-course tasting menu for $48 that takes you across India's regional cuisines. Downtown, Cantina Social Club brings Mexico City nightlife to the old Pinche Taco Shop space.
Tonight's got some energy. The Vancouver Canadians are hosting Tri-City at Scotiabank Field at 7:05 PM if you're keen on baseball. Music-wise, Yeat's at the PNE Forum at 8, Yard Act and Bambara are at The Pearl same time, and if you're a late-night person, BLACK0UT's spinning at Fortune Sound Club at 11. Pick your vibe.
Solid day ahead. Cheers.
