Monday grind: transit detours, warm light, and Daniel Caesar tonight.
Start of the week brings a few route changes and a UV kick — but the evening's got something worth staying up for.
Fourteen degrees and partly cloudy this morning, with a UV index sitting at 6 — that's high enough you'll want sunscreen if you're outside for any stretch. Light's still generous though: you've got until 8:25 PM, so there's room to move today.
A few transit things to know. If you're heading to the North Shore, the 255 to Dundarave and the 255 to Capilano Uni are both running detours this week due to construction — they're rerouting through Lonsdale and Esplanade, so pad a few minutes if you're catching them. Down in Burnaby, the 185 Lansdowne's detoured from 5 AM to 8 PM, swinging through Johnston and Glen before it gets back on track. And tonight after 11:30, the Expo Line between Royal Oak and Edmonds stations goes to single-track maintenance — if you're heading that way late, know you're on Platform 1 at both ends.
On the broader beat: there's a big wildfire burning through the Fraser Canyon — the Ainslie Creek fire's at nearly 65,000 hectares and Highway 1 is still closed through there, so any plans heading that direction need a reroute. Closer to home, a couple of Port Coquitlam homes were damaged in a fire yesterday, and one firefighter got hurt in the response.
Food-wise, there's some good openings happening. Navvy House just reopened on West Van's waterfront in that historic Navvy Jack space, and there's a new Thai chicken rice place called Hen opening softly on West Broadway this week — if you're looking to shake up lunch or dinner. Downtown, Cantina Social Club is bringing a Mexico City vibe to the Pinche Taco space, and if you're near Marine Gateway, there's a free Venti iced hazelnut oat shaken espresso at Starbucks today.
Tonight's the play: Daniel Caesar and 070 Shake are at Rogers Arena at 7:30 if you want to be out. If you're more in the mood to dive deep, there's diving finals from the Junior Pan Pacific Championships at UBC's Aquatic Centre at 5 PM, or if late-night's your thing, Blonde's throwing a 10-year anniversary celebration at Fortune Sound Club at 10 PM.
If none of that calls, honestly, hit a beach or a park before the week gets its hooks in you. You've got the daylight and the weather's on your side.
