Monday's got heat — transit hiccups, but the week's yours

Morning, friend. You're waking to 14°C and partly cloudy skies—bring a light layer if you're heading out, and don't sleep on the UV (it's sitting at 6, which is high). You've got just under 14 hours of daylight, sunset's at 8:12 PM, so there's still time to move today.

Transit's got a few snags worth knowing about. The Expo Line's having a rough Monday: the up escalator at Stadium-Chinatown from the platform level is out, and over at Commercial-Broadway, both the up and down escalators between the overhead walkway and the platform are down for maintenance. Nothing's shutting the stations, but if you're relying on those, plan to use the stairs or give yourself a few extra minutes.

If you're driving west toward UBC or Wesbrook, heads up—starting Thursday through Saturday, W 16th Avenue's getting paved around Wesbrook Mall. The roundabout and both directions of the avenue are closed, so a detour's in effect. Not today yet, but good to know for your week ahead.

Out in West Van, there's a small wildfire burning at Sunset Beach right now—lightning strike activity overnight hit the whole region pretty hard. The airport took a beating too; more than 50 flights got cancelled after that lightning storm, so if you've got travel plans this week, check ahead.

On the food front, there's some buzz: Rico Chicken just launched as a delivery-only Peruvian roasted-chicken spot if you're craving something different for lunch. Spud Shack—you know, the poutine place everyone sleeps on—just opened a second location out in Slurrey. And if you want to get fancy, Fred's Ambleside in West Van is doing modern Italian and people are talking about it.

Tonight's got three solid vibes if you want to shake the Monday weight. The Temper Trap's at Commodore at 7, G Flip's over at Hollywood Theatre at 8 (19+), or if hip-hop's calling your name, J. Cole's at Rogers Arena at 8. If French noise is more your speed, Angine de Poitrine's at The Pearl. Pick your lane.
