Saturday's your day: rock, comedy, and the PNE calling.

Morning. It's the kind of Saturday that feels open — cool enough you'll want a layer, but sun's breaking through enough to make plans. You've got a solid 13 and a half hours of daylight, and sunset's at 8:02 PM, so the evening's yours if you want it.

If you're taking transit anywhere, a couple of things worth knowing. The PNE Fair's running through early September at Hastings Park, and they're running specials between 29th Ave Station and the PNE Loop — only three stops, so it's express if that's where you're headed. Out in Surrey, the 503's detoured around construction on Fraser Highway through early September; head to the stop at 182 Street instead of 184. And the Canada Line elevator at Oakridge-41st is still out of service today while they finish roof upgrades — should be back tomorrow. Nothing earth-shattering, but worth a heads-up if you're planning your route.

On the local front, Joan Phillip, the NDP MLA and Indigenous rights advocate, passed away this week at 74 — she was a fixture in the conversation around rights and reconciliation here for a long time. Worth knowing. And Surrey just opened the first of ten city-funded primary care clinics to help with the doctor shortage, so that's a real move on something people have been waiting for.

If you're thinking food, Duchess Cafe's opening September 3rd over on Adanac with a no-tipping model and some backing from a B.C. cocktail brand — worth marking. Chinatown BBQ's been getting some heat lately (Ali Wong stopped by and co-signed), so that's on the radar if you want solid smoke. And there's Rico Chicken coming delivery-only soon — Peruvian roasted chicken concept from Chef Ricardo Valverde if that's calling your name.

As for tonight, you've got options depending on your mood. Guns N' Roses is at BC Place at 6:25 PM with The Black Crowes if you're feeling rock. If you want something lower-key, the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival is running all day at Stanley Park — they've got Anthony Jeselnik, Adam Ray, Pete Davidson, and more on the bill. Day pass or evening sessions, your call. Earlier in the afternoon, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is playing as a full symphony concert at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 1:00 PM — a whole different vibe if you're after that.
