Tuesday before the heat breaks — watch the transit hiccups

Morning, it's a regular Tuesday. Fourteen degrees, partly cloudy, UV 5 so you're fine without going overboard on sunscreen — more of a shoulder-season feel before the weather shifts later this week. Sunset's at 7:55 tonight if you're planning anything outdoors.

Couple of transit things to dodge this morning. The 128 between Braid and 22nd Street Station has cancellations at 6:05 and 7:05 AM heading toward Braid, and at 5:30 and 6:31 AM heading the other way — operational issue on their end. If that's your commute, give yourself extra time or look for an alternate route. Also, one of the escalators at Metrotown Station (Expo Line, McKay Ave entrance up to the platform) is out for now, so if you're using that station, heads up on that extra step. The 152 out of Lougheed gets a detour tomorrow morning through Wednesday afternoon, but that's not you today.

On the local radar: hospital transfer workers are escalating their job action over wages and vehicle safety — something to watch if you're in healthcare or have family in the system. Down in Delta, police are looking for a white Dodge Ram in a suspicious death investigation. Nothing that changes your day, but worth knowing what's going on.

Food-wise, if you grab groceries, know that Compliments brand chicken burgers are recalled nationwide because of an undeclared egg allergen — check your freezer if that's a regular in your house. On the flip side, if you're looking for weekend plans, Sushi Aboard's closing their West End spot on Denman after six years, so if you've got a favourite order there, maybe squeeze in a last visit soon. And if you're feeling adventurous with brunch, there's a new Mexican spot that's worth the trip — or if you want to go fancy, Rob Feenie's doing a Wagyu burger with port jus and foie gras at Le Crocodile if that's calling your name.

Tonight you've got options. Sonny Landreth's playing blues at the Vancouver Playhouse at 7:30 if you want something moody and real. Train's at Freedom Mobile Arch at 8:30 if you're after bigger energy and classic rock. Either way, you're inside, so the partly cloudy thing doesn't touch your evening.
