Thursday light and mild—watch the transit moves
15 degrees, mostly clear skies, and a few construction hiccups on your usual routes this morning.
Morning. It's a soft Thursday—15°C and mostly cloudy, so layer light and you'll be fine. Sun's down by 7:51 tonight, so that's your window if you're planning anything outside. UV's a 4, so nothing extreme, but don't skip the sunscreen if you're out for a few hours.
Couple of transit things to know. If you're catching the train at Oakridge-41st, Bay 4's temporarily moved 180 meters east across Cambie—construction work, should be sorted eventually. Good news: the power outage at Moody Centre on the Millennium Line is fixed as of early this morning, so all the elevators and escalators are running again. If you're heading south on the 102 at 139 Street or west on Fraser Highway around 184 Street, those stops are closed through Friday for construction—the 503 will pick up passengers a bit west at 182 Street instead.
A few things worth knowing around the city. There was a rock climbing rescue yesterday in the Capilano Canyon up in North Van—climber took a 10-meter fall but got pulled out. Also, Maple Ridge RCMP are flagging counterfeit $50 and $100 bills moving around—worth keeping an eye on if you're handling cash. On a heavier note, a man who was shot in Maple Ridge back on August 18 has died from his injuries.
If you're thinking lunch, Rob Feenie's got a Wagyu burger running at Le Crocodile that pairs with port jus and foie gras—real deal if you're in that neighbourhood. Fair warning though: Compliments brand chicken burgers got recalled nationally for undeclared egg, so check your freezer if you picked some up. And Sushi Aboard is closing its West End spot on Denman after six years—worth a goodbye visit if that was your place. Zumi's bringing a revolving sushi bar to the West End this winter, so something new's coming to fill that gap.
Tonight's got some solid options if you're heading out. Weird Al's at Freedom Mobile Arch at 7, Blood Orange is at Queen Elizabeth at 8, and there's live world music at The Pearl (SWAR - BADAL SARI TOUR) also at 8 if you want something a bit different. Slayyyter's playing the Commodore too if you're in the 19+ mood for something heavier. Pick your vibe.
Stay warm, watch for those transit changes, and cheers for the Thursday.
