Thursday's quiet before the weekend kicks off

Morning. It's a regular Thursday — 16 degrees, partly cloudy, and you've got a solid 13 hours of daylight to work with before sunset at 7:37 PM. UV's at 5, so if you're outside for a while, don't sleep on the sunscreen.

Commute-wise, a couple of things to know. The down escalator at Commercial-Broadway Station (coming from the Expo Line platforms) is out for now, so if you're heading that way, stairs it is or grab the up one if the angles work. Also watch it if you're catching the 41 bus — the stop at Oakridge-41st Ave has moved 180 meters east across Cambie Street through Friday, and the eastbound W 41 Ave at Willow is closed weekdays until Saturday. Granville Street's still in pedestrian zone mode, so buses are detouring via Seymour and Howe through tomorrow — regular service comes back Saturday.

Worth clocking: three challengers just filed to take on the mayor in October's election, and there's some industrial noise happening in the background — Chemtrade's suing a competitor and a PR firm over what they're calling an astroturfing campaign. North Shore's also been clearing out Bowser Island's encampment. Stuff moving.

If you're thinking lunch or dinner, the Vancouver Croissant Crawl is back and running through October 4 with 38 limited creations across the city — easy way to break up the week. If you want to sit down for something proper, Miku's still holding court as the finest window-side sushi experience in the city, and if paella's calling, Casa Molina (run by the Paella Guys' Javier Blanc) is where to land. There are six new spots worth trying around the area too, if you're in the mood to explore.

Tonight's got some good bones if you're up for getting out. Dana and Alden's doing a thing with Ania Hoo at The Pearl at 8, or if you're keen on hockey, the Delta Ice Hawks are playing Richmond Sockeyes at Minoru Arena at 7. VLAFF's opening night party is happening at Village Studios at 9:15 if you want to pivot to something later. Live jazz or a game — both solid vibes for a Thursday.
