Clear Sunday, live music everywhere, transit detours in the morning

It's a proper Sunday morning out there. Ten degrees, clear skies, and you've got a full eleven and a half hours of daylight to work with—sunset's at 6:45 PM, so plan accordingly if you're heading out tonight. UV's moderate at 3.0, so you won't need to go overboard, but it's still worth the sunscreen if you're spending the afternoon outside.

If you're heading anywhere downtown or on the West Side before noon, keep your eyes open. The 17 and both 84 routes are running detours until 11:30 AM because of a special event—they're looping around via Broadway and various side streets instead of their usual runs. Give yourself twenty extra minutes if you're catching transit in that window. Later tonight, SkyTrain's got overnight testing starting on the Expo Line between Waterfront and Commercial-Broadway from 9:30 PM onward, so if you're heading that way after dark, budget another twenty minutes.

A couple of things worth knowing this week: SkyTrain's beginning five months of testing a driverless-train control system, so expect more overnight disruptions as that rolls out. On a lighter note, there's a new spot on Davie—West End Butcher just opened up with Montreal-style house-cured meats if you're in the mood for charcuterie this week. Bento Cafe also opened a second location in Kerrisdale with their Japanese teishoku sets, if you want something quick and solid.

Tonight's got options depending on your mood. There's live music scattered across the city: The Rasmus at Rickshaw Theatre at 6:30 PM, Beth Orton at the Commodore at 7:00 PM, and Deer Tick over at the Hollywood Theatre at 7:00 PM if you're feeling something more intimate. If you're after something different, there's & Juliet at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 2:00 PM—it's the Broadway show, so that's an afternoon option if you want to stay indoors and warm. Or catch the Canada Super60 wrestling matches and concert with The PropheC at BC Place at 1:30 PM.

With the weather this clean and the daylight holding until nearly 7, it's a solid day to get outside before the evening gigs if you're keen on live music. The temperature's not going to make you want to stay home, anyway.

Have a good one out there.
