Monday's Clear and Crisp—Watch Your Commute, Catch Live Music Tonight

Morning's crisp at 11°C with clear skies—you'll want to layer, but it's the kind of fall day that makes you remember why you're here. UV's at 3.0, so no drama there. Sun's down by 6:43, so if you're planning anything outside, you've got just over eleven hours of daylight to work with.

Transit's got some hiccups this morning, so check before you head out. A few 187 Coquitlam Central trips heading westbound from Plateau are off the board—that's the 6:18, 7:02, 7:44, and 8:35 departures. The 180 from Moody Centre to Lougheed's also down for the 6:16 and 7:31 runs. Both are operational issues, so if you're on those routes, build in a buffer or look at an alternate. Good news on the escalator front—the down from the Lafarge Lake-Douglas platform at Lincoln Station is back, and same with the East Stn House escalator at Metrotown. Small wins.

Couple of things worth knowing around the city. Two teenagers got pulled off Mount Brunswick by helicopter yesterday after one twisted an ankle—a reminder that the mountains don't care how prepared you think you are. On a brighter note, that popular Burdy chicken parm sandwich bus you've probably seen around is opening a proper restaurant on Granville Island, so if you've been meaning to try it, there's your excuse.

If you're hungry, there's some real movement in the food scene. West End Butcher just opened on Davie with Montreal-style house-cured meats if you're into that. Bento Cafe YVR opened a second spot in Kerrisdale with proper Japanese Teishoku sets. And fair warning: Wildlight Kitchen + Bar in West Point Grey is closing after more than three years, so if that was on your list, don't sleep on it.

Tonight's got options. Sting's at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 8 PM doing the 3.0 tour—proper full-band rock if that's your speed. Phillip Phillips is at the Commodore at 7 if you want something a bit lighter. Twin Temple's at the Vogue at 8 if you're leaning metal. Pick your energy level and go.

It's a solid start to the week. Get out before dark if you can.
