Fog rolling in, transit hiccups, and rock shows tonight
Wednesday's got weather and a few route cancellations to know about. Grab dinner early, catch live music before the fog thickens.
Morning's sitting at 11°C with fog rolling through — the kind that'll stick around and soften your sunset views (which come in at 6:39 PM tonight, so plan accordingly). Nothing dangerous, just the classic Raincity Wednesday. UV's low at 3.0, so you're not worried about sun protection today.
If you're catching transit this morning, a couple of West Van routes are having operational issues. R4 trips between Joyce Station and UBC have three cancellations this morning (6:37 am, 8:19 am, and 10:10 am heading to UBC; 7:28 am and 9:20 am coming back from the Exchange). R3 to and from Coquitlam Central has two cancellations as well (7:05 am and 8:25 am). Check ahead before you head out — the transit app will have the latest.
There's also some overnight construction wrapping up this morning on Highway 1 between Vancouver and North Van near Hastings and Mountain Highway. If you're driving through there, crews were out until 5 am doing catch basin cleaning, so watch for slow-moving work vehicles if you're heading out early.
On the local front: AnnaLena just became Vancouver's first two-Michelin-star restaurant — that's a proper moment for the city. Also catching some attention: Burdy's bringing their popular chicken parm sandwich bus to a proper brick-and-mortar spot on Granville Island, and if you're into Japanese comfort food, Bento Cafe opened a second location in Kerrisdale with their teishoku sets.
Tonight's got some solid options if you're looking to get out. HammerFall's at the Rickshaw at 6:30 pm, THE ZOLAS are doing their Swooner Anniversary Tour at The Pearl at 8:00 pm with Cherry Pick, and Geordie Greep's at The Key at 7:00 pm (19+ only). There's also Silly Goose with Cheem at The Fox Cabaret at 8:00 pm. Pick your poison — rock's got a good hold on the city tonight. The fog will probably thicken as the evening settles in, so grab dinner first and stake your spot indoors for the show.
If you're heading out, layer up a bit. Fog doesn't drop the temperature much, but it's got that damp feel. See you out there.
