Thanksgiving Monday: Clear skies, live music, and time to breathe.
It's a statutory holiday—most of you are off. Here's what's worth knowing.
Good morning. It's Thanksgiving, which means the city's in a quieter gear today. You've got clear skies and 3°C—crisp enough that a jacket's non-negotiable, but you'll actually want to be outside. Sunset's at 6:28, so plan accordingly if you're heading anywhere. The UV's mild at 3.0, so no drama there.
Transit's running holiday schedules, which you probably already know. If you're heading out mid-week, just clock this: the Canada Line's doing track maintenance Thursday night from 9 PM onward, so single-tracking between Bridgeport and Richmond-Brighouse. Give yourself extra time if that's your line. Nothing's hitting you today, though.
On the local front, there's been some movement in the mayoral race—Rebecca Bligh's picked up backing from four senior B.C. Liberals, and meanwhile Surrey's Doug McCallum's talking about rebuilding the Cloverdale harness racing track by fall 2027. Worth paying attention to if you're following city politics.
For eating, if you haven't caught up yet: AnnaLena just became Vancouver's first two-Michelin-star restaurant. That's a big deal. If you want something less precious, Burdy's opened a new spot on Granville Island with their famous chicken parm sandwich. There's also a new wave of autumn openings around the city worth exploring when the mood hits. On a day like this, though, quiet dinner at home might be the move—but if you do want to get out, there's live music happening. Sunanda Sharma's playing the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at 7 PM if that's your thing, and there's more low-key stuff around town if you want to stay closer to home. Fortune Sound Club's got Midnight Mondays Long Weekend going later tonight if the evening pulls you back out.
It's a good day to do nothing much—to gather with people, to settle in with something warm, to actually notice the light while it's here. The city's slower today, and that's the whole point.
Enjoy it.
