Monday morning: escalators down, commutes tight, live music tonight.

It's 7°C and cloudy this morning, so layer up if you're heading out early. You've got just over ten hours of daylight before the sun drops at 6:15 PM, so plan your outdoor moves accordingly. UV's low at 2.0, but the cloud cover means you're not getting much warmth from it anyway.

If you're transit-dependent this morning, heads up: a handful of escalators are down across the system starting before 6 AM. The up escalator at Millennium's Gilmore station (Compass level to the VCC Clark platform) is out. On the Expo Line, you'll hit out-of-service escalators at Granville (westbound platform to Dunsmuir concourse), Waterfront (platform to Howe Street), and Commercial-Broadway (10th Avenue entrance to platforms 3 & 4). None of these are dealbreakers — stairs work fine — but if you're running tight this morning, factor in a few extra seconds. Also watch for a vehicle incident on Highway 1 in Burnaby near Sprott Street; right and centre lanes are blocked as of early this morning.

On the civic front, Van's turnout last week hit over 43%, the highest since 2014 — good sign for engagement. Over in Slurrey, Doug McCallum's back as mayor after a tight three-way race. And if you're tracking the provincial election coming up on the 24th, Eby's been working the phones with Green voters.

Food-wise, there's real movement happening. Hook Seabar on Denman's closing after nine years, so if you've been meaning to go, make it happen soon. On the flip side, Baan Lao's team opened two new concepts over on Granville Island. If you're keen on Japanese street food, Le Tigre and Toki Doki are doing a one-night reunion at Torafuku on Main Street. And there's new Spanish-Cuban cooking at The Moon, Felix Maristany's martini bar in Gastown. If you want something cozy and different, hit up Douce in North Van — word is they're doing diner food in a way that feels fresh.

Tonight's got three live shows on the board if you've got energy after work. Owen Riegling and Dalton Davis are playing the Commodore at 7:00 PM, Justin Nozuka's at The Pearl at 7:30, and Shitkid with Special Guests heads to The Fox Cabaret at 8:00. All kickoff before 8:30, so you can catch a set without it eating your whole evening.

Cheers, and keep your head up — Monday's almost done by dinner time.
