Friday's Clear and Mild — Pick Your Evening Lane

Morning's sitting at 9°C and dead clear—the kind of Friday that makes you want to move your plans outside if you can. Sunset's at 6:07, so you've got just over ten hours of daylight to work with. UV's low, so no drama there. This is the weather that gets people out.

If you're heading anywhere on transit, a few things to know: the elevator at Canada Line Marine Drive is down for now, so come in street level another way if you're headed that way. Over on the Expo Line at Granville Station, the up escalator by Platform 1 is out for repairs—not a killer, but worth knowing if you're rushing. The R4 UBC Exchange has a couple of cancelled trips this morning (7:18 and 9:04 from Joyce Bay 4), so check before you head out if that's your line. And the 100 Marpole is running a detour all day—rerouting via 71 Ave and Hudson until 7 PM due to construction.

On the provincial front, the BC Conservatives are polling at 44% with the election two days out. Nothing that changes your Friday, but worth paying attention to. Closer to home, there's been fallout from a wrong-way driver crash in West Van—turns out he was relying on Waze, which came up in court. And if you've been thinking about Surrey Memorial, word is it's ranking rough on Google right now.

For food, keep your eye on the restaurant scene shifting. Hook Seabar on Denman wrapped up after nine years, but Granville Island's got new energy coming—Baan Lao's team is opening two concepts there this summer. Tonight, if you're hungry before you head out, Le Tigre and Toki Doki are doing a one-off Japanese street food night at Torafuku on Main Street. And over in Gastown, Felix Maristany just opened The Moon, a new martini bar with Spanish-Cuban cooking if you want something a little different.

This evening's got real range. The Lions are hosting Winnipeg at BC Place at 7—that's your Friday night sports play if you want the roar of the crowd. If you're more culture, West Side Story's on at the Orpheum (6:30), or catch Digable Planets at the Commodore (6:30)—live hip-hop and a solid crowd. Josh Johnson's at the Vogue at 7 if you want another live music option. And UBC's volleyball home opener kicks off at 5:30 at Thunderbird Stadium if you're into that.

Pick your lane and roll with it. This is the kind of Friday night that works however you want to spend it.
