AnnaLena has become Vancouver's first restaurant to earn two Michelin stars, marking the city's first two-star recognition since the guide arrived in 2022. The tasting-menu restaurant at 1809 West 1st Ave. was promoted from one star to two in the Michelin Guide's 2026 Vancouver edition, released Tuesday.

Chef and owner Michael Robbins' contemporary, globally influenced tasting menu earned the recognition from Michelin's anonymous inspectors. Two stars signify "excellent cooking worth a detour." The inspectors highlighted dishes like Sungold tomatoes with house-made XO sauce and caramelized buttermilk infused with Thai green curry, and fresh pasta with charcoal-roasted asparagus and wine sauce finished tableside.

The dining experience skips white tablecloths and formal atmosphere but delivers what Michelin called "one of Vancouver's most polished — and delicious — dining experiences." The inspectors praised effortless service, expertly prepared cocktails, and astute wine pairings, but noted the seasonally inspired tasting menu as the centrepiece.

Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, said: "Today we celebrate reaching new heights for Vancouver, with the first Two-Starred restaurant being awarded to AnnaLena. The whole 2026 selection reflected the continued evolution and maturity of Vancouver's restaurant community. The city's chefs and restaurant teams consistently demonstrate exceptional skill and creativity."

AnnaLena was the only restaurant to earn a new star this year. The 2026 guide names 72 Vancouver restaurants across all categories — 10 one-star restaurants, 16 Bib Gourmands, and 45 Recommended establishments across 23 cuisine types.
