Chao Mami Express has opened a second location inside Granville Station downtown, bringing family-run Vietnamese cuisine to commuters and downtown workers.

The Burnaby-based spot — formerly known as Brokenrice Restaurant, operating since 2013 — is now serving its signature pho daily from 2 to 6 p.m. at happy hour prices. A bowl of beef pho loaded with rare steak and brisket, or a clean vegan version, costs $10. Add-ons like bean sprouts, Thai basil, and lime are available for $1 extra.

Owner Xi Nguyen's from-scratch approach made Brokenrice a community favourite, and the expansion brings that homemade philosophy into Vancouver for the first time. Her children Jennifer and Steven are supporting the expansion.

The new Granville Station location also serves fresh salad rolls, baos, and drinks, decorated with a mural by local artist Olivia Di Liberto. The menu celebrates both familiar and modern takes on Vietnamese flavours.

The location marks a significant expansion for the family business, which has built its reputation on authentic Vietnamese cooking approached as if welcoming guests into the owner's home.
