Earnest Ice Cream opens fifth location on Granville Island this fall

Earnest Ice Cream, the Vancouver staple known for nearly a decade of rotating inventive flavours like cannoli, butter pecan, and carrot cake, is opening its fifth city location on Granville Island this fall.

The space at 1431 Anderson Street will be designed by Studio Roslyn and draw inspiration from Granville Island's maritime history while featuring work from local artists throughout. The location will also offer Earnest's jar-return program, allowing customers to bring back pint jars to be washed and reused.

"We try to make each shop unique," said co-founder Erica Bernardi. "This could be our last location, so we knew it wanted to feel really special. We've always trusted our gut when it comes to choosing spaces—community first, and then everything else. It's harder than it sounds to find somewhere that checks all the practical boxes and just feels right. This one does."

The chain, which has operated locations on Fraser Street, in Olympic Village, Strathcona, and North Vancouver, has been deliberate about growth. Co-founder Ben Ernst said the company is clear-eyed about expansion's costs. "Change can strain the culture our team has built together, so we've always been deliberate about where we put down roots. We open in neighbourhoods where we actually want to spend time—places worth lingering in. Ice cream has a way of doing that to people. When you have a cone in your hand, you slow down. You wander. You notice things."

An exact opening date has yet to be announced.
