Two of Vancouver's most missed food trucks are reuniting for one night only on Monday, October 26, at Torafuku (958 Main Street), bringing back the casual, lively energy of a Japanese yatai — the street-food stalls found in Tokyo neighbourhoods after dark.

Le Tigre, which paused operations in 2022, was a downtown fixture since 2012, known for Asian-inspired rice bowls, stuffed housemade buns, and dumplings. The truck has been operated by the team at Torafuku. Toki Doki, run by chef Kei Lowes, built its reputation on Japanese street food inspired by Lowes' heritage and the people and places that shaped his journey.

For this one-night collaboration, Le Tigre will serve Grilled Cheese Mochi Skewers, Beet Fries with plum powder and herbs, Wagyu Croquettes, and Shaved Ice with oolong tea creme caramel, brown sugar bubbles, and passionfruit. Toki Doki brings its Famous Okonomiyaki, Cabbage Caesar Salad (Hispi cabbage, miso Caesar, dengaku sauce, sesame, nori, and lemon), and Ice Cream Cookies made with homemade ginger cookies, vanilla ice cream, yuzu marmalade, and kinako.

The event organizers described the vibe simply: "Think Japanese yatai after dark — casual, lively, a little messy, and very delicious."

Reservations are available online now. HighOnCity reported earlier this month that Vancouver restaurants are drawing new energy with autumn openings.
