Vancouver Water Fight returns to Stanley Park on August 8 for 15th annual summer soaking

Vancouver's 15th annual Water Fight is set for Saturday, August 8, at Lumberman's Arch in Stanley Park, kicking off at 1 p.m. The free, unsanctioned event draws hundreds for what organizers call one of the city's quirkiest and most joyful summer traditions.

There are no tickets, no official organizers, and no instructions—just show up near Lumberman's Arch, follow the sounds of giggles and squeals to the Fox's Den Spray Park area, and dive in. Participants can use water guns, buckets, water bottles, plastic bags, or their cupped hands. The bulk of the fun lasts about 90 minutes, though people keep arriving and playing for hours.

Costumes are highly encouraged. Previous years have featured dinosaurs, astronauts, and a now-legendary participant in a full business suit affectionately known as "Ken the Walking Target."

The event is family-friendly and emphasizes safe, respectful play. The code of conduct includes: don't spray bystanders, aim for the body not the face, bring a waterproof bag for valuables, and leave water balloons at home. The water fight runs rain or shine.

Drop in whenever you like—the party typically runs for about an hour and a half, but continues as long as people are having fun.
