Majority of commercial vehicles fail inter-agency safety inspection in Coquitlam

Twelve of 20 commercial vehicles inspected during a safety blitz on July 29 in Coquitlam were pulled off the road for serious safety defects, according to a statement from Coquitlam RCMP.

The inspection was conducted by Coquitlam RCMP in collaboration with officers from the Integrated Road Safety Unit, Langley Township bylaws, Vancouver Police Department, Port Moody Police, New Westminster Police, Coquitlam Bylaws, and WorkSafeBC. Inspectors noted a total of 47 vehicle defects and issued 17 tickets.

Const. Jennifer Barker of Coquitlam RCMP Traffic Services said the force aims to work with partner agencies to promote safe driving practices and improve compliance across the Lower Mainland. "We would like to thank those drivers that had safe vehicles on the roadway today," she said in a statement. "Enforcement collaboration between police and bylaw are valuable in commercial vehicle enforcement, given that transport operators routinely travel between municipalities across the Lower Mainland."
