B.C. First Nations want details and consultations on a proposed $44-billion oil pipeline announced Thursday that would follow Trans Mountain's previous route to Roberts Bank in Delta.
The pipeline is in early stages of development, with Alberta having asked Canada's Major Projects Office to designate it a project of national importance, with a target decision date of October 1, 2026. Trans Mountain said detailed routing will continue to be refined through environmental review, engagement with Indigenous communities, and engagement with communities and stakeholders.
First Nations and environmental groups are calling for comprehensive consultation before the project advances. The route will include environmental review and detailed engagement with Indigenous communities and other stakeholders. Trans Mountain said more information about next steps would come "in the coming days and weeks."
