Metro Vancouver moving on second land removal from Deas Island
Delta regional park faces another alternative approval process for George Massey Tunnel replacement project.
Metro Vancouver will launch another alternative approval process to remove more land from Deas Island Regional Park in Delta for the George Massey Tunnel replacement project.
This is the second such process following an Accommodation Agreement between Metro and the province in 2025. The latest request includes changing permitted uses on leased land to allow more extensive industrial uses, including subsurface structures.
The new proposal also requests an additional 3.6 hectares of park land for temporary construction and lay down areas, plus an extension and upgrade of the park road for concrete trucks and material movement.
Metro's board must first establish an eligible voter count and approve an Elector Response Form. After that, staff will publish notices and provide at least 30 days for voters to submit opposition forms. In the first approval process last fall, only two responses were submitted across all of Metro Vancouver—less than the 10 per cent threshold needed to block approval.
