Mount Pleasant has cracked Time Out's prestigious global list of coolest neighbourhoods, landing at 35th place in the 2026 rankings — a recognition that reflects the strip's evolution as one of Vancouver's most vibrant strips.
Time Out's panel of editors evaluated neighbourhoods on food and drink, nightlife, unique local businesses, livability, and community. Mount Pleasant scored for its independent businesses, diverse culinary offerings, and pedestrian-friendly nature. The neighbourhood's 140-year brewery history — with the first brewery opening in the 1880s — anchors its identity, alongside contemporary spots like R&B Brewing, Brassneck Brewery, and Neptoon Records. The list also highlights Thrift World, Modus Coffee Roasters, Mount Pleasant Vintage and Mintage, Lykopis Archery, and Budgies Burritos as standout draws.
"Mini-villages where the barista knows your order, where local restaurants, bars and indie businesses thrive, and where communities continue to band together for all sorts of cool stuff, from art walks and day festivals to creating greener streets and pedestrian-friendly spaces," Time Out's travel editor Grace Beard said in describing the neighbourhood's appeal.
The timing aligns with Vancouver's moment as an international draw. The city has been a hot spot for travellers this year, and the addition of a new public plaza at Main and 14th reflects the neighbourhood's continued investment. A travel site called Brooklyn Of also dubbed Mount Pleasant the "Brooklyn of Vancouver," noting it has "a scene that is creative without being precious, and sidewalks that fill up on a Saturday with nobody in a rush."
