David Fleugel, Chief Constable of the Port Moody Police Department, has announced he will retire at the end of 2026, the Port Moody Police Board said Tuesday, June 23.

Fleugel has notified the board of his decision and said he hopes to support a "thoughtful leadership transition" before the end of his service. The board will launch a recruitment process to find his successor.

Under Fleugel's leadership since 2017, Port Moody has remained one of the safest communities in British Columbia, reflecting his focus on community-based policing, crime prevention, and public trust, according to the board.

Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti praised Fleugel's tenure. "He has demonstrated unwavering dedication to public safety and has guided the department with professionalism and integrity."

Fleugel has been a police officer for more than 30 years.
