A fire destroyed 14 retail stalls at Richmond Night Market on Sunday morning, June 28, but quick response prevented wider damage.
Richmond Fire-Rescue responded around 8:30 a.m. to reports of a fire within the market area. Deputy Fire Chief Trevor Northrup said crews extinguished the blaze within an hour using a first-alarm response with 21 staff.
"It could have been much worse," Northrup said. The cause remains under investigation.
The fire affected retail stalls among the market's 280 total vendors. None of the food stalls were impacted by the blaze. Richmond Night Market opened for a "partial open" on Sunday from 7 to 11 p.m., with the stage and one row of retail vendors closed off.
Richmond Night Market confirmed on social media that the affected area has been "secured and the situation is now under control." The market posted: "Our thoughts are with the affected vendors."
