Surrey Food Bank receives $200K truck donation at community event
Firefighters present specialized vehicle at Fill the Bay gathering. Event featured entertainment, food trucks, and fundraising support Thursday.
Surrey Food Bank received a $200,000 specialized truck donation Thursday, May 21, from firefighters during Fill the Bay, a new community event held outside the food bank's warehouse in Newton.
The event, held from 3 to 6 p.m. at 13478 78th Avenue, featured games, entertainment, and food trucks co-hosted by Global BC's Mark Madryga and Howard Blank. The donation came as the food bank simultaneously benefited from Pay It Forward, a charity lunch hosted by Downtown Surrey BIA.
The specialized truck donation represents a significant boost to the food bank's logistics and operational capacity as it works to serve the region's food-insecure residents. The sunny afternoon gathering drew community members and volunteers in support of the organization's mission.
Fill the Bay marks the food bank's expansion into community-facing events, moving beyond warehouse operations to engage residents directly and raise both funds and awareness.
